Praise Through the Pain

By Jordan Seth

For most of us, this life is a constant struggle in one way or another. It seems that around every corner is something new to deal with. Some of us are facing depression, a failing marriage, or a mountain of financial issues. Others of us are in poor health and silently battling everyday. Just finding a good way to position our bodies to relieve chronic pain is a constant struggle. Many of us are facing a multitude of struggles and it all seems unrelenting. Being in this spot can feel so hopeless and dire, day-in and day-out.

I regularly find myself asking…

“Where are you in all of this, God?”
“Why must I go through this?”
“Will you ever heal me, God? I’ve been praying for such a long time!”

Sometimes I feel like king David hiding in the mountains, crying out to the Heavens. “Where are you God? Will you save me from the snares of my enemies?” (Psalm 59)

But thankfully, as David did, I always find my way back to God saying, “Because your steadfast love is better than life, I will praise you. I will praise you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. Though my body and my circumstances may fail me, you are good. And I will praise you until my voice fails. And when my voice fails, I will lift my hands to you until my arms fail. And when my arms fail, I will seek you until my heart fails. And it will all be worth it to spend eternity with you!” (Psalm 63)

So I say to all of you who are struggling, having feelings of hopelessness—DON’T GIVE UP! Keep giving God praise through the pain. Find a place to put on your favorite worship song. Seek out your favorite Bible verses and just tell God how good he is. Praise him with everything you have because one day we will be in a place where there is no pain or tears, and that will be an incredible day! (Revelation 21:4)
